The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

A book review

My love: ♥♥♥○○

I began reading this book as an easy start in Tolkien's world. In order to better follow the LOTR trilogy. However, when I began, I felt I was in a children's fairy-tale. Which is good, so was it intended. However I do enjoy children's fairytales, this one, not fully. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I'm very girly when it comes to fairytales. Or maybe because it was intended for boys who love adventure. And even though character development was very good as well as narration, I missed a connection. There was none. For me, Bilbo was but another annoying scary cat trying to grow up.

Phasing was fast and entertaining up to a certain point. The dwarves were confusing. And I just had to drop my book for a bit when the climax came as in, "that was it?". I am certain a boy of 8 can love this book. I am pretty sure have I read it when I was this young I would have loved it. But now? It was just megh. But very very good writing. And it accomplished the goal, I do feel ready to take on LOTR.
