April Reading Wrap-Up

I am surprised to see that I am keeping up my 4 books per month goal, though I read also some long ones in between.

This month I read “the 5th Wave” by Rick Yancey, which I loved and I am looking forward for the new one to come out on August. I continued into “Scarlet” by Marissa Meyer and though I didn’t loved it as much as the first book in the series, I am long forward to “Crest”, but I am holding on it because I want to read both “Crest” and “Winter” in 2015 once “Winter” is out. Else I feel I have to wait too long between the two books and that is just frustrating. But I did go on to “Winter’s Tale” by Mark Helprin, which I got in the bookstore while my goal was to buy both “Scarlet” and “Crest”… yea… I am proud to have read it until the end even if it took me forever. It was a weird book but lovely, I just wished it had more on some characters… quite random. But it improved my reading speed by a lot (plenty of difficult words which gave me headaches sometimes).

I finished the month with “Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore” by Robin Sloan which I really liked. Out of the 4 books I read this month, it was the only one without the dreaded flash romance. I am starting to ignore such plots and just try to enjoy the stories. I feel authors are a bit lazy when it comes to developing romance… if anyone out there knows of a better kind of romantic development in a book let me know!

I did begin reading “The Magician’s Guild” by Trudi Canavan from the “The Black Magician” series. I read “The Magician’s Apprentice” two summers ago from the library and loved it. But I put of reading the series for a while. Don’t know why… I do love Canavan’s style. It’s like an easy read borderline of high fantasy. But thank goodness is not. I hate the whole descriptiveness of such books while I just want to know about the story and the characters. The reason I did pick up the book finally was because “Thief’s Magic” is coming out this month! *Squeals* I am looking forward to this whole universe and the kind of magic it presents, as it’s very familiar to what I am attempting to write about in my own story. (See old posts about it somewhere… it’s along work in progress.) But yes, I am definitely reading “Thief’s Magic” this month! :D

So I will be reading that book, “Smiler’s Fair” ARC by Rebecca Levene from NetGalley, which is coming out in July, and most likely continue with Canavan’s series; unless I feel like reading contemporary. I even made a list of books to read on 2014 but I keep switching them around because I just don’t feel like starting them even though I do want to read them badly… what’s wrong with me? Here is the list if you wish to suggest something or stop me from reading that one.

So there you have it. My monthly goal accomplished.
How many books do you usually aim to read per month?
